The Care
Precise care, given gently
Clinically guided, grounded in Western midwifery, and shaped by the wisdom of sanhujori.
Our care philosophy
Attentive, calm and never rushed
Care at the Sanctuary begins with attention. We watch, we listen and we respond to what you and your baby need, rather than to a fixed routine.
We are precise about care, and gentle about you.
Clinically guided
Grounded in Western midwifery
Our care follows the principles of Western midwifery: observation, timely guidance and clear communication. It is expert-led and clinically guided throughout your stay.
The traditions of sanhujori shape the setting and the rhythm. Midwifery shapes the care itself.

Continuous care
What continuous care means
In principle, continuous care means you are never on your own with a question. Support is present through the day and through the night.
It means the same calm attention at three in the afternoon as at three in the morning.
Care for you
Your recovery is the centre of the stay. Your body, your rest, your feeding and your feelings are met with attention and without judgement.
Care for your baby
Your baby is cared for alongside you, with guidance offered so that you grow in confidence in these first weeks.
Alongside your midwife
Part of your care, not in place of it
The Sanctuary sits alongside the care you already receive. Your own midwife and your own care providers remain your care providers.
We see our role as adding warmth, rest and continuous attention to that care, never replacing it.
Honestly stated
What the Sanctuary is, and is not
It is
A recovery retreat for the weeks after birth. A place of warmth, nourishment and rest, with clinically guided, continuous care.
It is not
A hospital, or a replacement for medical care. In any medical situation, your own midwife, doctor or hospital remains your first point of care.
